BMX racing is one of the most exciting, fast-paced, and family-friendly sports around. Whether you're 2 years old or 70, there's a place for you on the track. Here's everything you need to know to get started at Dayton Indoor BMX or Kettering (Outdoor) BMX.
What is BMX Racing?
BMX racing is a competitive cycling sport where riders race on a dirt track featuring jumps, berms, and rhythm sections. Races are short, intense, and incredibly fun to watch and participate in. It's a sport for all ages and skill levels — from complete beginners to seasoned pros.
Step 1: Get a USA BMX Membership
To race at Dayton Indoor BMX or Kettering (Outdoor) BMX, you'll need a USA BMX membership. It's quick and easy to sign up:

Purchase your Annual membership online or in person!

Select Kettering BMX as your local track and you'll receive your first race FREE with us!

Memberships cover all sanctioned USA BMX tracks across the country

Once you're a member, show up to any USA BMX event and pay the fee of the day
Step 2: Get Your Gear
Safety is the top priority in BMX racing. Here's the basic equipment you'll need:

BMX Bike — Any BMX bike will work to get started. We have LOANER Bikes at no cost! limited supplies.

Helmet — A helmet is required and a full-face helmet is recommended. we have loaner helmets at no cost! limited supplies.

Long Sleeves & Long Pants — Required for racing

Gloves — Highly recommended

Closed-toe & heel Shoes — Required (no sandals, slides, or crocs, etc)
Step 3: Come to a Practice Night or Jump right in to a race!
The best way to get started is to come out to one of our practice nights. Practice nights are low-pressure, fun, and a great way to learn the track before your first race, but you are always welcome to come on out to join us for a race your first time! No experience necessary!

Step 4: Register for Your First Race
Once you're ready to race, registering is easy. You can register online right here on our website. Riders are grouped by age and skill level, so you'll always be competing against others at your level or as close to your level as possible.
